Lions and postseason? or just a football mirage?

The NFL preseason was a lock for the Detroit Lions.

John Kitna, Calvin Johnson and Coach Rod Marinelli to make a real run? I don't know. Time and time again, the Lions show Promise at some point whether its in the preseason or a upset game against a hot Dallas Cowboys team.

The lions hot and cold runs are so the norm nowadays. Last season they were 6-2 halfway through. Lions fans were on the edge of their seats each game, but quickly shoved back in them after they failed to at least go 4-4 to secure a spot in the post season. Although they didn't make it, I seen some movement towards a better ball team overall. I was impressed with Kitna and a few others.

so, could this be the season for the Lions? Could the 7 drafted rookies help the lions make the move? Throughout the preseason I was very impressed with Keven Smith,Jordan Dizon, Jerome Felton and Landon Cohen. These players showed promise, and some showed the ability to make the difference right now.

The position of Kitna in QB is a lock for me. Sure he gets his critics at times, but I think that he is a solid QB and i do consider him within the top 10 League QB's. I don't see the lions throwing as much as they did last year. I mean they didn't have much of a choice did they? I don't think anyone was very capable of running consistently. This year with K Smith and Felton we should be solid.

Lions receiver core is top notch. Having this will open big gaps to run, and run some more. I am not saying don't pass, because we need to do that too,but I would wait till our running backs work the defense down a bit, that way we can rack the yardage up. Roy Williams, Calvin Johnson, and Mike Furrey.. what else can you ask for? These guys are for real and pose a huge threat.

All in all I think the Lions at best are headed to a 9-7 season with a spot in the postseason. As far as what they will do from their no one knows. We really don't have any experience in that environment. Rod Marinelli said that he was "impressed by what he has seen out of the rookies", well will see. Kick off is coming up faster than you think!

The right Choice?

John McCain stuffed a foot in his mouth? That is what I thought when he made a baffling choice for his VP pick. Someone once said that "Barack Obama was too inexperienced for the White House".

After listening to the reports of his choice, I thought to myself. Why would someone throw shots using the lack of experience route? I mean come on. Would that not kind of throw any hope of him using that same method in the ladder? I personally don't think this method is going to pay off in the long run. Sure it might get a bit of hype now, but its also gaining lots of criticism.

I think that this choice was made with little thought and more desperation. I am not saying he is going to lose for sure. But this move probably hurt more than helped.

In my opinion, this choice was made for a few reasons. 1, is to scrape up whatever Clinton voters he can. 2, to create a sense of shock. 3, She held the position of Ethics Commissioner of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission. 4, to bring a sense of youth along with him. 5 She is pretty strong ethically it seams. Now lets talk about these reasons a bit.

I don't think that electing a female for VP is going to seal the deal on the Clinton voters fully. It may help some but not enough. I think people will think of this as a desperate move, making it look like he has no other way to grab their attention. The shock affect is in my opinion a move to generate hype and media buzz hoping to inch forward in the polls and sway more people to fall in line. She held a solid position that requires a vast knowledge and an ethic regard to the oil industry. This is a solid reason to choose her due to our current crisis. She isn't that old, so that kind of brings the youth within the campaign which could help. She seems very anti government corruption so that's a strong point also. Even though that should come with any candidate. One bad note that I stumbled upon as of late, is that she is bringing baggage. Palin is being investigated on a choice she made of firing one of her employees wrongfully.

With all this being said. What we have is a mediocre choice at best. She is getting solid critics on her inexperience to her having 5 kids. We will have to see of course how this all turns out. In the end i think it will be a close race. But, i think that McCain kind of killed any hopes of thunder with his VP he could have had. Thats just the way I see it.

Barack truly inspired a veteran

A True Inspiration!

I started off tonight watching the DNC with little enthusiasm about what was going to be said. What i figured would happen is a repeat of the same content already covered by the news and or speaches. Well a little was repeated, but boy was i wrong about the big picture.

Let me start off by saying, that I usually dont get inspired by poeple other than my family and friends. For the most part its from the ones I live around and can speak to face to face. But tonight, listening to Barack speak about America, its people and his views really lit a fire under me. I was truly moved and humbled by what he had to say. I thought to myself about what I myself and americans as a whole are capable of. As of now I have a totally different outlook on what I and we as a whole can accomplish.

You see, i joined the military when i was 19. I wanted to be in a position to make a difference in peoples lives other than my own. I am becoming a police officer for this same reason. My calling is for the service to our great nation and its people. Having said that, I thought that would be enough. I thought serving as a police officer was sufficient. Well after listening to those thoughtful, truly inspiring words from Barack Obama. I told myself that I am not going to stop there.

I don't think it is our careers that define us fully. I think that it is what we do for this country, city, town, neighborhood or any other place and get nothing in return is what defines the soul of this great nation. This is why I am going to get active in my states affairs and issues. I am not sure where i am going to start, but i will find a way.

To sum this all up. Regardless if Barack wins the election. That man is someone we should not model ourselves after fully.Because we all have to be our own, but to instill some of his beliefs and ethics within us.

A Set time?

For those people that find it easy to say"Hey lets just pick up and leave Iraq". Or for those who ask why is it taking so long to complete the task at hand? Ask yourself a quick question. How long would it take for a ruler to cross into the United States and change our lifestyle?

Think about all of the stuff we take for granted at times. The freedom to walk the streets, the Freedom to shop, drive, speak and to hold free will. Now flip the thought. Just imagine that all these things that we endure and live were controlled. Meaning the end of speaking and or voicing your opinion. The end of walking out of your house and travelling from or to where you please. These are the things that the U.S Military and government are trying to change.

My thought on this would be that, they have lived in Iraq for many years under a Dictatorship. And we lived for many years with a sense of freedom. Now as far as a change, its possible. But to think that you can change ones mind and habits or thoughts in a short time, would be unreasonable. For example use this basic Sample. Lets say you have a cat for many years. And this cat is trained to use its litter box that sits in the same spot each and everyday of his life. Given this basic sample do you think you could change the cats habits in a short time? While leaving his litter box in place? And telling him to use the toilet? I understand that this example is shallow in a sense but i think you get an idea of where i come from.

It is my belief that the people of Iraq are so used to this Dictator way of life and the ever presence of insurgents, that they are afraid of change. It seems that they find it very hard in some places in Iraq to accept change. Now having said that, the military has done a great job! I served over there and seen first hand how much change and progress was made. The media would have you believe that there is little change. Due to the fact that progress doesn't bring views for the most part, only the bad reports create buzz.

Having said all this. I understand that Bush and his members of the government have made there mistakes. I do think it could be going a little faster. But as far as the pick up and go option. That is not a choice I myself nor i think the U.S should make. It would be a complete failure, leaving it worse than it was before we moved in.
